Oh, no he didn’t!

It’s amazing to see what a young man sold out to God can do.  David and Goliath is a story that has been rehearsed many times but what can we “heed” from it?  I believe one of the best lessons we can “take heed to” from this story is that God has a special call for young people to be courageous in the face of an imposing threat.  But wait, before you go out and start throwing stones at tall people, we need to seriously look into the Word of God and see how we can have godly courage.  From this story we see that David had several key elements in his life that allowed him to be so courageous.

  • See the Challenge – David was first, before everything else, obedient in the small details of life. This obedience enabled him to have a clear mind to discern what the actual challenge was.
  • Seek the Solution – David knew that there was an “authority” that God had placed over him, to protect him. He sought these men out for a solution but none were willing to stand. (sad commentary on the courage of adults, sometimes)
  • Serve with Confidence – When David confronts Goliath he runs at him. David had passion and zeal that few have but all seek and it came from first seeking God’s heart and obeying His laws.
  • What about you? Do you see any other lessons in this story that we can “take heed” to?
